Coming Full Circle: Lessons From My Hashimoto’s Journey
When Life Brings You Full Circle
Sometimes, life brings you full circle. You find yourself facing lessons you thought you had already learned, only to realize you were always on the right path — even if it didn’t feel that way at the time.
There are moments when we veer off track, whether because of circumstances, unexpected life events, or simply because we’re human. But what truly matters has a way of rising to the surface again and again. It grows louder and clearer until one day, it demands your full attention and asks you to listen.
My Hashimoto’s Diagnosis
Over 13 years ago, I was first diagnosed with Hashimoto’s. Like many, I felt overwhelmed, scared, and unsure of what the future would look like. I thought I could “fix” it quickly or that it was just a temporary setback. But autoimmune conditions don’t work that way — they are complex, ever-changing, and deeply tied to the way we live, move, eat, and care for ourselves.
Learning to Work With My Body
As the years have passed, I’ve learned that Hashimoto’s isn’t something to fight against; it’s something to understand and work with. Each flare, each setback, each moment of progress has taught me more about my body and what it needs.
Autoimmunity is challenging. It can feel isolating and frustrating, but there is so much that can be done to manage symptoms and improve how you feel day to day.
Starting Where You Are
It starts with being honest about where you are right now. There’s no shortcut or magic fix — healing begins with acceptance and small, consistent steps that add up over time.
For me, that has meant embracing nourishment instead of restriction, prioritizing rest and movement in a balanced way, learning to listen to my body’s signals, and creating routines that support my overall well-being.
You Are Not Alone
If you’re navigating Hashimoto’s (or any autoimmune condition), know that you’re not alone. You don’t have to do it perfectly, and you don’t have to have all the answers right away. Start where you are today. Listen to what your body is telling you. Take one step at a time.
What’s important will always rise to the surface — and you’ll be ready to meet it when it does.
