When We Fall: Lessons in Slowing Down and Moving Forward

When We Fall: Finding Strength in Slowing Down

Sometimes, we fall down. We get hurt. We have to pause.

On Christmas Day, my son Aiden slipped and fell, hurting his elbow. He’s now wearing his splint like a champ, and while it’s been tough for him, it’s also been a powerful reminder for all of us.

Life Doesn’t Always Go as Planned

In so many ways, Aiden’s fall mirrors what we experience in life. We move along, thinking we know what’s next, and then—unexpectedly—we’re forced to slow down. We’re met with challenges we didn’t choose, and it can feel frustrating, painful, and discouraging.

These moments aren’t pleasant. They slow us down, test our patience, and challenge us to find new ways of moving forward. But they also hold space for growth and learning that we might not have chosen on our own.

Adjusting, Not Stopping

Falling doesn’t mean we stop. It means we adjust. We might need to move more carefully, rethink our approach, or give ourselves extra compassion and patience. In these shifts, we discover new layers of strength and resilience within ourselves.

The growth isn’t in avoiding the fall—it’s in how we rise, adapt, and continue.

Progress Over Perfection

Even when it’s hard, we still have the capacity to move forward. It doesn’t have to look perfect—it just has to be intentional. We can keep showing up for ourselves, staying in the moment while looking ahead, even when the path feels a little uncertain.

Keep Moving Forward

To anyone navigating a tough season right now: you’re not alone. Remember, you are stronger than you think. You don’t need to rush, and you don’t need to do it all perfectly. Just keep moving forward—however that looks for you today.
